Most of us don’t remember much about being an infant, toddler or even a pre-schooler but that is about to change for some people in District 69.

“It’s a fundraiser for our two daycare facilities,” said Kestin Doré, manager of Springboard Family Centre in Parksville. “We’re opening our doors on a Pro-D day in hopes of raising some money so that we can continue to offer the high quality care that we pride ourselves on.”

Cribbed — Spring Me From the Nap Room will benefit two daycares in the Oceanside Area; Springboard Family Centre in Parksville and A Childs P.L.A.C.E.  in Coombs.  Both facilities are not for profit, operating under the umbrella of Woodwinds Community Support Society (WWCSS), in association with the alternate school, PASS.

“As a parent, I feel so fortunate that my two little ones are getting high quality care in an  environment that they can thrive in. I know that the kids are number one at Springboard and the staff are top-notch,” said Kait Burgan, a parent at Springboard and WWCSS board member.

The fundraiser is loosely based “Jail-a-Thons” but community members will be put in the nap room until they’ve raised at least $200. While there they will experience things from a child’s point of view through crafts, songs and snacks, lead by staff from both facilities.

“It’s going to be great,” Burgan said. “I can’t wait for people in the community to see, first-hand, how wonderful these early childhood educators are at what they do.”

“We have six participants so far, including our MLA Ron Cantelon, Scol Baek from Sunlife Financial, Jaclinn Gereluck from The Gap and Melissa Burke, owner/operator of Kidz Kompany Childcare Centres,” said Doré. “It’s going to be really lighthearted and fun and if it goes well, we’ll plan another one late in the year.”

The fundraiser runs this Monday, February 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Springboard Family Centre in Parksville. Call 250-951-0011 to donate or get “cribbed.”
