DeCosmos Fine Arts Society, a Parksville art group, has raised $2,594 with its Father's Day charity art sale for the SD69 Backpack Program.

The program provides students who require some extra help a backpack with food for the weekends.

“We are particularly impressed with the local arts community who donated 100 per cent of the sale price of their paintings," said show organizer Karen Morrison in a news release. "With MLA Adam Walker providing the space and donating many supplies and then DeCosmos members picking up the costs of the credit card fees and other expenses, there were zero costs. Local artists and many Qualicum merchants donated all the raffle prizes. This enabled us to turn over the full proceeds of the sale to the school board.”

The sale took place during the Father’s Day Car Show in Qualicum Beach and the Seaside Cruizers contributed with announcements during their event.

Local media helped out with coverage of the sale.

"This was another great example of the Oceanside community coming together for a cause,” Morrison added.

DeCosmos will be celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2025 and hope to sponsor many future charity events. More information is available online at decosmos.org.
