RDN approves applications for youth, community grants

Grants awarded to eligible organizations for spring intake totals $39,650

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) has approved applications for the Spring 2024 Oceanside Recreation Services Grants.

The value of the grants awarded to different eligible organizations for the spring intake totals $39,650. The money will be slated for recreation programs, special events or projects which benefit Electoral Areas E, F, G, H, City of Parksville, and the Town of Qualicum Beach.

There are two categories in the recreation stream: youth specific (11 to 18 years) and community (all ages). The funding was awarded as follows:

The nine groups that will received the Oceanside Recreation Services Youth Grants include:

  • 893 Beaufort Squadron Air Cadets – Flying/gliding training equipment - $1,500
  • Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association – Gym rental - $2,310
  • Ballenas Secondary School – Grad Committee – Dry Prom facility rental - $1,500
  • Errington War Memorial Hall Association – Facility rental, advertising/promotion - $1,400
  • Girl Guides of Canada – Bus rental to Bamfield Marine Centre - $1,000
  • Oceanside Track and Field – Throwing Equipment - $1,500
  • Oceanside Volleyball Club – Jerseys, equipment, gym rental - $2,000
  • Ravensong Aquatic Club – Ravensong rental feels - $1,500
  • Whalers Football Support Society – Helmets, shoulder pads and first aid equipment - $1,500 

For the Oceanside Recreation Services Community Grants there are 16 organizations that will receive funds. They are: 

  • Arrowsmith Agricultural Association – Coombs Fair Kids Club rental and supplies - $1,810
  • Arrowsmith Agricultural Association – Coombs Family Day food and activity supplies - $1,500
  • Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association – Coombs Halloween Candy Walk - $1,500
  • BC Cultural Days 2024 – Planning & Funding Committee – 2024 Celebration - $2,000
  • Bowser Tennis Club – Root barrier construction - $2,000
  • Coombs History Committee – Family history digitization - $900
  • Forward House Community Society – Off site recreation activities - $1,500
  • MAC School for the Creative Arts – Creative Kids art supplies, tent and promotion - $1,500
  • Mid-Island Pensioners & Hobbyist Assoc. (Bradley Centre) – Kitchen rental & supplies - $1,500
  • Oceanside Community Makerspace Society – Leather tools - $1,500
  • Parksville Indoor Slow-Pitch League – Purchase of a defibrillator - $1,100
  • Parksville & District Musical Association (PDMA) – Marketing materials - $1,500
  • Silver Spur Riding Club – Rental of Coombs Fairgrounds - $1,500
  • Sources Community Resource Centres – Family Wellness & Youth Connections food, supplies, mileage - $1,500
  • Ravensong Masters Swim Club – Ravensong rental fees -  $1,500 
  • The Friends of Earth Inclusion Society – Project Sunflower seeds - $1,000
  • Tri-Athletics Society – Qualicum Beach Triathlon – Ravensong rental fees -  $1,200
