The Regional District of Nanaimo is inviting the Nanoose Bay community to celebrate the completion of phase one of the Jack Bagley Community Park development project on May 4.

The event will start at 11 a.m. and is open to the public. It will kick off with guest speakers and an official opening of the recreational facilities that include five pickleball courts, one tennis court, a basketball hoop, a paved plaza with picnic tables as well as a new washroom building that is wheelchair accessible.

A pickleball demonstration will be held with an opportunity for the public to try the sport. The RDN advises people to come in their soft-soled shoes and join the fun.

The park is located on Powder Point Road in Nanoose Bay. Refreshments will be available.

The sports courts will be closed during the event and opened after the pickleball demonstration is complete.

The second phase of the project is scheduled for late this year and will include upgrades to a single ball field, a half-size soccer field, and enhanced parking along Power Point Road.
