A myriad of fun and exciting activities are scheduled for the Canada Day celebration on Saturday, July 1, in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.
Parksville
The Parksville & District of Chamber of Commerce will get the festivities going with the Shriners pancake breakfast, followed by the big parade, an array of fun activities at the Parksville Community Park and ending the celebration with a big bang, with the Thrifty Foods sponsored Fireworks Show.
Here’s the schedule of events for Parksville:
• 7:30 a.m. - Shriners Pancake Breakfast at the Coastal Community Credit Union Parking Lot
• 10 a.m. - Canada Day Parade
• 12 p.m. - Opening Ceremonies at the Parksville Community Park
• 12:45 p.m. - Main stage entertainment starts at the new outdoor theatre. Here are the performers lined up for the day:
- 1:15-2:15 p.m. — The Springman’s
- 2:45-345 p.m. — Sunset Strip
- 4:15-5:15 p.m. — The Apollos
- 5:45-6:45 p.m. — Completely Credence Band Ltd.
- 7:15-8:15 p.m. — Big Blast Band
- 8:45-9:45 p.m. — Hollywood Knights Live
• 1 p.m. - Beer Garden opens
• 1:45 p.m. - Races Begins (potato sack races, tug-of-war and three-legged races)
• 10:15 p.m. - Fireworks Display

Qualicum Beach
The Town of Qualicum Beach and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 will open the celebration with pancake breakfast at the Legion on 180 Veterans Way, to be followed by a parade from the Civic Centre to the legion.
A full day of events will focus on free events for children and families at the Activity Village beginning at 1 p.m., featuring face painting, balloon creation, games, make and take table, plus a wide range of live music offered throughout the day.
The popular and nationally acclaimed March Hare Band & Costume Show featuring CCR and Bob Seger, Lady Gaga, Fleetwood Mac Tributes will be performed for the Street Dance beginning at 7:30 p.m.

• 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. — Back Porch Banjo
• 1 p.m. — Canada Day parade
• 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. — Face painting; balloon creation; games; make and take table; magicians; hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshment garden at Activity Village
• 1:30 p.m. — Opening ceremonies at centre stage
• 1:45 p.m. - 2 p.m. — Flyover
• 2 p.m. - Cake cutting by dignitaries, Qualicum Beach Pipe Band
• 2:30 p.m. - Vegetable races top end of Veterans’ Way

Bowser
In Bowser, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 211, will feature a day of fun for the whole family. They will hold a classic car show, a market, hay rides and kids games. All events will be at the legion, at 7035 Island Highway West. The gates open at 10 a.m.
